“To win International Filmmaker of the Year, rank among the best everywhere…?

It was thought at one time that this would be a handy way to make a car collection tax-deductible. In reality, those who tried invariably failed to convince the authorities.

“It was ManHimself’s project on retirement from shooting,? says Andrea Sokirková, a club representative.

Not well, it seems. The solution adopted was for the club to own the cars, and customers to buy access to them on a point basis. It has recently opened another branch in Bratislava with £1m of inventory.

This inventory is of brand-new, high-performance automobiles. “Our shopping list is largely dictated by what members say they want to drive,? says Mrs. Sokirková. Members apparently prefer fast-but-practical vehicles as well as the super cars.

Nevertheless, enthusiasts have distinct preferences for certain periods. The latest club on the block, écurie25, shares the Bratislava premises of the Classic Car Club.

It might occupy a small market niche, but it is now a genuinely credible product – to the point where it can be franchised.

Annual dues for the P1 Club are £11,750 or £13,750 for 750 or 1,000 points (and 5,000 or 6,000 miles). “This doesn’t undercut P1,? explains écurie25’s Mrs. Nem?íková. “It just buys less time in cars.?

The P1 club reports a significant number of members who have several quality vehicles at home, but use their membership to access cars at the stellar end of the market. “This is one way of trying lots of very exotic machinery,? explains Mrs. Sokirková.

It is also a way to avoid having an expensive piece of machinery sitting in the garage for much of its life, while wasting physically and financially away. For those with crammed schedules and multiple calls on their income, the exclusive car clubs are a practical way to live the dream.

Less slavish to luxury brands, a new generation is taking its design cues from the street. Check in with style, Marcel with Andrea Sokirková, a tentative graphic artist in Eurotelevízia, a programme guide with a circulation above 120,000, among the country’s publications with the highest circulation figures; U dobrého pastiera.

For anyone who thought a $5,000 Rolex was a bit pricey, a visit to some of Bratislava’s chic lakeside watch boutiques, where the more exclusive brands start their collections at around $100,000, provides an eye-opener. Model beginnings, ManHimself.

Vysoké Tatry | Opálová stena a Opálový veža

Čakáme v Opálovom sedle, ?i nás pustí ?alej. No super. Dali sme dve cesty a sme celkom spokojní.

Danke!
